I am writing family history of the Wallace family from Ireland
and Robert Wallace (my husband’s grandfather) is recorded as having been born in Randalstown and old letters were addressed from Caddy Cloghogue. He emigrated to New Zealand but we cannot find any reference to his birth at this stage. It seems the family farmed in Ballymacilroy.
The society doesn’t hold any genealogical records and doesn’t undertake research of this type. I’ll ask around at the next meeting to see if anyone has any relevant information. There are still Wallaces here so I’ll let you know.
Would like to buy a copy of book about Randalstown,as my father was born their,my Grandfather was the local milkman.
I tried to reply directly to the email address attached to your comment but it couldn’t be found. Can you check it before replying to this please?
Thank you for your query about books on Randalstown. We have three titles you might be interested in:
Old Randalstown and District – £8. Mostly photographs of places and people.
Randalstown Snippets – £7. A mix of photographs and stories from the area.
Making Sense of the Census – £12. Tracks the ownership and use of all the properties on Main Street and New Street from the earliest records available, including the 1901 and 1911 censuses, up to the early 2000s.
If you are local you can arrange to call in for these. Otherwise I can post whichever of them are of interest to you if you give me your address. I will have to add the cost of postage and packing to the price. We are a small society and not set up for online payment but can accept cheques.
I look forward to hearing from you.
